'X-Factor' Star Rachel Crowe Lands New Musical: Is It Too Similar to 'Glee'?

Rachel Crowe, who appeared on the last season of "X-Factor," has just landed a deal with Nickelodeon. The new series could be the latest television musical to give competition to "Glee."

Rachel Crowe has struck a deal with Nickelodeon to star in her own musical comedy series, the Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. In addition to her new deal with Nickelodeon, she has also been signed to Sony Music, with the help of Simon Cowell.

"It's been amazing," Crow told The Hollywood Reporter. "A couple days after the elimination I just found myself sitting home asking myself, 'What am I going to do now?' And I never would've thought that this is what I was going do now. So, it's pretty amazing. I'm very thankful and I feel very blessed to have all this."

The new Nickelodeon series will be titled "Fred:The Show."

"She is already on-set shooting the role of Starr, an eccentric girl who acts and sings and, as her name indicates, wants to be famous," Hollywood said of Crowes new role. Although the news has been thrilling for Crowe, the whole star-obsession deal sounds a little familiar.

Rachel, one of the lead female singers in Glee, is also coincidentally obsessed with stars. In one episode, she explained that her reasoning was that she would one day be a star.

Rachel also plays the role of an eccentric female who likes to sing. Lea Michele Sarfati, who plays Rachel, was named one of Time's "Most Influential People" in 2010.

Nickelodeon's Talent Strategy and West Coast Operations EVP Paula Kaplan still has high hopes.

"Rachel is an original," she told Hollywood. "She's funny, genuine and has raw talent and a passion for performing. We're delighted to be home to her first acting project and think she is poised to join the ranks of our next generation of Nick stars."

Crowe also commented on her album adding that it going to be "spunky and there's definitely gonna be some high notes in there. And it's just gonna be me."
