'X-Men: The New Mutants' Release Date, Cast News: Is Maisie Williams Going to Play as Wolfsbane?
With the release of concept artwork for the "X-Men: The New Mutants" featuring Wolfsbane, it seems that it has been confirmed that "Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams will play the role.
MovieWeb recounts that back in March 2016, there was an unconfirmed report that aside from Williams, the upcoming film will cast Anya Taylor-Joy as Ilya Rasputin, aka Magik, as well as recurring X-Men actors Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Williams' BFF and "Game of Thrones" co-star Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
A few weeks after Williams was first linked to the superhero project, she told Entertainment Weekly: "I can't say much about it at all, but I would absolutely love to be a part of it, [and] to be a part of the Marvel family. 'New Mutants' looks absolutely incredible and I've always loved the idea of spin-offs and [director] Joshua Boone is incredibly talented. So, yeah, sign me up."
No confirmation followed the report until last week when "X-Men: The New Mutants" director Josh Boone might have just leaked Williams' addition to the roster. Over the weekend, Boon shared a Wolfsbane concept artwork by artist Ashley Guillory through his official Twitter page.
It could have just been simple concept artwork. However, Boone tagged Williams in the same tweet which makes a lot of fans hope that it means the Emmy-nominated actress is going to play the part.
Aside from the Wolfsbane art, illustrations of the other characters possibly appearing in the "X-Men: The New Mutants" were also posted at Boone's Instagram page including Magik, Dani Moonstar aka Mirage, Samuel Guthrie aka Cannonball, and Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot.
Alongside Williams and Taylor-Joy, "Paper Towns" actor Nat Wolff is also rumored to be joining the cast of "X-Men: The New Mutants" possibly as Cannonball, according to /FILM.
While the idea of seeing Turner and Williams together again, this time on the big screen, is interesting, neither Boone nor Williams has spoken to directly confirm the speculations.
