'X-Men' TV Series Casting News: Stephen Moyer Cast in Lead Role

"True Blood" star Stephen Moyer has been tapped to play the lead in the upcoming Marvel "X-Men" pilot for FOX.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moyer will star in the untitled pilot of the action-adventure project from writer Matt Nix and director Bryan Singer.

The "X-Men" pilot will be focusing on two ordinary parents who make the shocking discovery that their children possess mutant powers. In order to survive, they are forced to run from a hostile government, joining an underground network of mutants in the process.

Moyer will play the character Reed, an ambitious attorney trying to balance his job at the district attorney's office and his responsibilities as a father and a husband.

The "True Blood" star has also appeared in the series "The Bastard Executioner" and "The Sound of Music Live!" as Captain Von Trapp. He stars next in the limited drama "Shots Fired."

Aside from Moyer, the cast of the untitled "X-Men" pilot for FOX also includes "Gotham" actress Jamie Chung as the mutant Blink, and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" actress Blair Redford.

The series, should it push through, will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television. In addition to Nix and Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will also serve as the show's executive producers.

"Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network – and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe," Fox Entertainment president David Madden said when the show was announced in July 2016.

"There's comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships, and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series," he added.

The untitled X-Men pilot for FOX is just one of several projects lined up for the "X-Men" franchise on film and television.
