Xbox Exec Believes Xbox One X Will Be a Hit but Xbox One S Is Still Their 'Leader'
Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently explained why he thinks the Xbox One S will still be their product lineup's "leader" despite his knowing that the Xbox One X's launch will be successful
Early next month, Microsoft will release to the market their highly anticipated Xbox One X which, as the company claims, has "40% more power than any other console" and will let players "experience immersive true 4K gaming."
Talking to GameSpot during the ongoing Brazil Game Show, Spencer was asked if it ever crossed their minds that they might have "pushed too far ahead" with the making and release of the Xbox One X.
The Xbox chief said: "At some level, the market will decide what happens." He also reiterated that they still see the cheaper but perfectly able Xbox One S as their console family's leader.
"It's the more affordable console, plays all the same games, it's the 4K Blu-ray [player]. ... It will be the console that sells," Spencer added. He then stated that even from their perspective, the upcoming Xbox One X is "not for everybody."
The same principle was already mentioned by Xbox's Corporate Vice President Mike Ybarra. In June, he also said they thought the $499 price tag on the Xbox One X was a good deal for "high-end gamers" who want to experience the console's features and specifications.
In Ybarra's interview as well as in Spencer's, they both emphasized how they want to give gamers an array of choices based on their gaming needs. But overall, the latter reiterated that he was "very confident about the product that we have coming to market."
Meanwhile, Microsoft has already launched two batches of Xbox One X pre-orders -- which is generally a good sign for the console's marketability.
In August, Microsoft first opened up for pre-orders of the special edition of Xbox One X consoles that had exclusive Project Scorpio markings, also for $499. However, this version of the machine had sold out within about a week.
Then, in September, the company started accepting pre-orders for the regular Xbox One X. Both console versions will be out in the market on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
