One of the big stories on the list is the launch of a turn-based RPG, "Earthlock: Festival of Magic". As the name suggests, the game focuses on a dystopian future anomaly: The Earth stopped spinning.

Players would control the desert scavenger protagonist, Amon, in a game that boasts similarities to beloved classics like "Final Fantasy", "Secret of Mana" and "Harvest Moon".

The game is available for download from September 1 to 30.

A motoring paradise

As much as fans would love a go at the hack-and-slash blow-'em-up type, some would just like to sit back and enjoy a drive around race tracks with the slickest cars around.

"Forza Motorsport 6" provides just that. Coming off with a great fifth title, Forza was still able to add more cars to keep racing fans' mouths watering.

Turn 10 dazzled with their fix for this installment's roster, adding cars from various historical eras. There are the F1 cars of the '60s and '70s, the '80s and '90s cult favorites, modern-day hypercars and even pre-war models. The game, as an IGN review suggests, is basically car porn - a 460-car delight.

Turn 10 also improved how players browse cars. It now allows sliding through manufacturers by scrolling left and a vertical list of individual models. This feature is much better than Forza 5 as it allows easier management of cars as the inventory gets bigger and bigger.

The game is available for a free download until August 28. Meanwhile, the original game, "Forza Horizon", would also be backward compatible and downloadable for Xbox One from September 1 to 15.

Two-dimensional glory

Speaking of things going backward, the latest installment of the famed "Assassin's Creed" series brings the game back to the classic two-dimensional world.

"Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China" had altered the series into a platformer. However, it keeps itself grounded to traditions of stealth that made the game famous.

A review praises the title's outstanding visuals. The game has the look and feel of a painting coming to life. The new environment also creates new challenges: hanging off ledges, getting on higher and higher platforms, and overcoming adversities with a variety of tools.

As a bonus, the in-game storyline also links the main character to previous titles. He was trained, after all, by none other than Ezio Auditore da Firenze from "Assassin's Creed II".

The game can be downloaded for free on Xbox Live from September 16 to October 15.
