Xbox 'Games With Gold' October 2017 Free Games List Rumors: Big Reveal Expected This Week; Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Gets Major Update

Ahead of the Games with Gold October 2017 reveal, the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program received a huge update this week as Microsoft added four classic titles to its roster. The Games with Gold list for October is also expected to be announced very soon, but before it was made known, a new leak has emerged.

The list of games for the month of October has yet to be confirmed, but gaming enthusiasts are confident that next month's list will consist of horror titles, just like in the previous years.

However, a new leak is making its rounds online that contains what is supposedly October's "Games with Gold" lineup.

According to the leak, "DmC: Devil May Cry" will be available for Xbox One gamers for the whole month of October, and "Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor" will be free on the same console from Oct. 16 to Nov. 15. Meanwhile, Xbox 360 players can allegedly get "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow" from Oct. 1 to 15, whereas "Blood Drive" will be taking its place from Oct. 16 to Nov. 15.

However, this information should be taken with a grain of salt since an official announcement has yet to be made.

Currently, the games available are "Forza Motorsport 5: Racing Game of the Year Edition," "Oxenfree" and "Battlefield 3." "Forza Motorsport 5: Racing Game of the Year Edition" was released last Sept. 1 and will be available until Sept. 30 on the Xbox One. "Oxenfree," which players received last Sept. 16, will be accessible for free on the same console until Oct. 15. "Battlefield 3," on the other hand, will be obtainable only until Sept. 30 on both the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Meanwhile, the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program got a major update earlier this week as Microsoft added "Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary," "Halo 3," "Halo 3: ODST" and "Halo 4" to its roster of games. What makes this major boost even better is the fact that each of these "Halo" games actually comes with free downloadable content so more maps are now available for multiplayer.

Recently, Microsoft also announced its plans to include "Fable Anniversary" to the said program. This was confirmed by Microsoft's Phil Spencer, who was asked by a fan via Twitter if the game would ever be "backwards compatible on the Xbox One."

"This should come, it's being worked on now," answered Spencer.
