'Xenoblade Chronicles 2' News: Devs Introduce Three More Characters, the Driver Nia and the Blades Dromarch and Hotaru

Drivers and Blades have different roles in the game

The world inside "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" is a vast one, and it is a place players will be able to explore together with numerous characters.

Fans have likely heard a lot about the Driver Rex and the Blade Pyra, as they are the two main characters in the game, but there are others worth learning more about.

Just recently, developers introduced fans to three new characters who players will encounter while going through the world of Alrest.

The first of these characters is named Nia. Developers have described Nia as "energetic" and "headstrong." Nia is also going to have an important role in the game as she is a Driver.

For those unaware, Drivers are essentially the human characters inside "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" as Monolith Soft studio head Tetsuya Takahashi told IGN earlier this year. Drivers are the ones capable of interacting with Core Crystals and creating new lifeforms.

In Nia's case, the lifeform she will serve as the Driver to is Dromarch.

Previewed by developers over on Twitter, Dromarch has the appearance of a beast but does not necessarily act that way. Blades like Dromarch can provide incredible powers to their Drivers. At this point, however, it is still unclear what kind of power Dromarch will lend to Nia inside "Xenoblade Chronicles 2."

Also revealed recently by the developers is one more Blade known as Hotaru, NintendoEverything reported.

It is still unclear which Driver will be responsible for the creation of Hotaru, though whoever that individual is will have a good ally to rely upon. Hotaru uses an unusual kind of weapon in the game, making it interesting to see exactly what she can do in battle.

Aside from Rex, Pyra, Nia, Dromarch and Hotaru, there are other characters expected to be featured and developers may reveal more details about them soon.

"Xenoblade Chronicles 2" is set to be released for the Nintendo Switch on Dec. 1.
