'Xenoblade Chronicles 2' News: Lengthy Gameplay Video Shows Off Combat, Previews Blade System
Players can obtain different powers from the Blades
The Titans who inhabit the world of Alrest also serve as hosts to different kinds of creatures inside "Xenoblade Chronicles 2."
These creatures come in all shapes of sizes and players will have to deal with them as they continue to make progress inside the game.
A demo of the game was present at Milan Games Week recently, and fans were shown what kind of battles they can look forward to.
Players will be able to issue specific commands to the characters during battle and it looks like they will need to provide these quickly as enemies are not going to be waiting around for them.
Interestingly enough, even if a player closes in on a specific enemy, it appears that other creatures nearby can join in on the fight. That means players will have to be mindful of their surroundings before they initiate battles, or else they may find themselves biting off more than they can chew.
There also looks to be a combo mechanic of some kind included in "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" and players may also be able to flee from fights if they want to.
Near the end of the demonstration, the player showing off the game also gave fans a quick look at the Blade System.
As Monolith Soft studio head Tetsuya Takahashi told IGN earlier this year, Blades are special lifeforms that can be brought to life after the characters known as Drivers interact with Core Crystals.
Blades then provide special powers to their Drivers.
In the gameplay video above, protagonist Rex is shown forming a bond with a Core Crystal and the result of the process is the creation of a cool-looking Blade known as Ryo.
There are different Blades expected to be available in the game, and players will want to find out which ones work best with the characters.
"Xenoblade Chronicles 2" is set to be released for the Nintendo Switch on Dec. 1.
