Xiaomi Mi 6 Release Date, Specs News: Device to Rival Sony Xperia XZ Premium?
The Xiaomi Mi 6 will make use of Sony's newly unveiled sensor, at least according to the latest report about the highly anticipated handset from the China-based tech company.
According to My Drivers, the Xiaomi flagship will come equipped with the Sony IMX400 sensor, introduced by the company last month. It was shown off at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) and is currently seen in action on the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and XZs.
This is contrary to the previous reports that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will use the last-generation, lower-tier model, Sony IMX386.
However, GSM Arena believes that the Xiaomi device will get a scaled-down version of the imager as Sony would want to keep its top quality imager to itself.
The site says that should the Xiaomi Mi 6 get the Sony IMX400 sensor, it will be a downsized version at best, which means that instead of allowing the smartphone to experience the impressive 960 frames per second (fps) frame rate the current-generation imager has to offer, Sony could cut this in half for the Xiaomi device.
Meanwhile, the same report also claims that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will come in two versions. One will have a 5.15-inch display while the other will sport a bigger 5.7-inch screen.
The latter is supposedly getting a dual camera setup. This is supported by leaked sketches of the Xiaomi Mi 6 shared over at Weibo.
While the device on the sketches was not explicitly referred to as the bigger Xiaomi Mi 6, the sketch of the purported Xiaomi flagship shows a dual-lens camera setup with a LED flash sitting next to it.
The illustrations also show that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will boast ultra-slim side bezels and a physical home button where a fingerprint sensor is embedded.
Other specifications and features of the Xiaomi heavyweight include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4 GB and 6 GB random-access memory (RAM) and 64 GB and 128 GB storage.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is rumored to be released on April 16.
