Xiaomi Mi 6: Unusually Huge Price Tag for Flagship?
As the release of the Xiaomi Mi 6 draws closer, more information about the Chinese flagship continues to emerge, slowly puffing out the air of mystery around the device.
The latest information was dug up by Gizmochina, which found a listing of the handset on the e-commerce website Jingdong. There, the next-generation Xiaomi smartphone was priced at 3,599 Yuan, which is around $522.
Unless this is the high-end version of the Xiaomi Mi 6, the price tag comes off as a bit steep compared with what Xiaomi patrons are used to.
The premium version of its predecessor Xiaomi Mi 5 from last year was priced $354 only during launch. The lower-end model can be purchased then for as low as $262.
Considering the history of the Chinese tech firm of releasing premium devices without urging users to break the bank, which is one of the reasons Xiaomi quickly grew into a patronized company, the information on the website has many, including Gizmochina, questioning the credibility.
With that said, users are advised to take this information with a grain of salt. Thankfully, it would not be long before the Xiaomi Mi 6 is unveiled to the world.
It is to be noted that previous leaks have suggested that the starting price of the Xiaomi Mi 6 is $290 with the premium version going as high as $507. The latter is reportedly a Plus version with 8 GB random-access memory (RAM) and 256 GB storage.
Whatever the price ends up being, the Xiaomi Mi 6 comes off as nothing short of stunning based on the leaks and reports about its specifications and features.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor with 4 GB and 6 GB RAM configurations and 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants as well as the abovementioned 8 GB RAM and 256 GB iterations. One model will allegedly come with a 5.15-inch display with a Plus version at 5.8 inches.
The high-end variant is also reportedly boasting a dual curved display with 2K resolution and a massive 4,000 mAh battery to keep the lights on.
As for the release date of the Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has hinted in a livestream that the device is coming this month. Reports have it that it will take place either on April 11 or 18.
