Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Unveiled, Resembles iPad, Runs with Windows 10 or Android

Chinese electronics company Xiaomi finally made the Mi Pad 2 tablet official on Tuesday. According to International Business Times, the device was unveiled together with the highlight of the event, the Redmi Note 3 handset.

A very distinct look of the tablet is that it can easily be mistaken for an iPad mini. That's nothing new though as the company has been dubbed as the "Apple of China" because some of its devices very closely resemble Cupertino's gadgets. Xiaomi's products are also cheaper compared to the whopping prices of Apple.

Lighter and better than its predecessor, the Mi Pad 2 sports a full metal body with a measurement of 6.95 mm thick and 322 grams heavy. It has a 7.9-inch screen with 2048 × 1536 pixels resolution which comes to 326 ppi. Under its hood is an Intel Atom 64-bit X5-Z8500 2.24Ghz processor with Intel HD graphics coupled with 2 GB of RAM. It has storage variants as well where consumers can choose either 16 GB or 64 GB of storage.

And while it was previously teased to run with the Android Lollipop operating system, the company announced that the device may also run with Windows 10. As reported in Know Your Mobile, interested buyers will need to choose ahead of purchase which OS to go for. It's been noted that the Android will work better considering the size of the display but it's up to the preference of the customer.

The Mi Pad 2 tablet is also equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Its power is obtained from the 6190mAh battery which is claimed to provide 12.5 hours of reading and video time. It also comes with a USB Type-C charging, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1. However, it does not offer cellular connectivity, just like the predecessor model. Available color options include silver, grey and champagne gold.

The 16 GB variant will have a starting cost of 999 Yuan while the 64 GB variant will cost around 1299 Yuan. It's still not announced whether the device will enter Western markets.
