.XXX Domain Name a Ploy to Promote Hardcore Internet Porn?

Morality in Media, an organization dedicated to the opposition of hardcore pornography is calling for a federal investigation of ICM Registry – a company that believes it can double the amount of Internet pornography by implementing the .XXX domain name.

The .XXX domain went live yesterday and nearly one million pornography companies have expressed their interest in obtaining it for their websites, according to a Morality in Media press release.

Originally the intent of this domain name was explained by ICM Registry as a means of protecting Internet users from accidentally stumbling upon hardcore pornography.

“They pretend that they are doing this to protect children,” said Morality in Media President Patrick A. Trueman to The Christian Post. “Well that’s nonsense.”

Trueman also explained Title 18 United States Code Sections 1462 and 1465 that strictly prohibit the distribution of hard-core, obscene Internet pornography and how this legislation is not enforced by the federal government.

Under these laws it is illegal to distribute hardcore adult pornography through various mediums such as cable TV, satellite TV, the internet, retail outlets and in hotels and motels.

The .XXX domain violates those rules and yet the government refuses to act and investigate companies such as ICM Registry.

“The Federal Government is looking the other way and favoring pornographers,” said Trueman.

One of the main culprits turning the blind eye to this situation is Attorney General Eric Holder.

“Further, Title 18 U.S. C. Section 2 prohibits aiding and abetting a federal crime and Title 18 U.S.C. 371 prohibits a conspiracy to commit a federal crime. The U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, should review the activities of ICM Registry in relation to these federal criminal laws immediately,” said Trueman in a press release.

ICM Registry’s involvement with .XXX basically means that they are assisting in a crime being committed. The company’s actions need to be stopped, according to Trueman, who feels that all illegal porn sites need to be cracked down on including the .com ones as well.

Morality in Media focuses on influencing the government to enforce the laws against hardcore pornography due to its harmful effects on the general public including addiction and divorce.

“A spouse who knows that their husband is addicted to porn treats it as if they are having an affair,” said Trueman to CP. However, hardcore porn also affects women and young children.

Porn can pull children in at a young age. According to Trueman, most of them are drawn in accidentally by parents not having the proper filters on their computers.

“For a child it has a terrible effect on the maturation process,” said Trueman to CP. And for adults the increasing availability of a variety of hardcore pornography could be the cause of the growth of child pornography in the U.S.

Trueman explained how once pornography pulls a person in, they need to seek more deviant material such as child porn in order to fulfill their needs.

An addiction to porn does not always start at the hardcore level. Other sex driven publications such as FHM and Maxim can be a gateway for the desire of more hardcore material.

“The sexual exploitation that’s depicted in Maxim will entice people to look for harder pornography,” said Trueman.

In order to combat this sex trade Morality in Media has organized a coalition of 120 groups in a project called the “war against illegal porn.” The main goal of this is to have the government enforce the federal legislation that prohibits the distribution of hardcore porn. They also wish to have future presidential candidates including Barack Obama, to promise to enforce these obscenity laws as well.

The organization has also set up websites with more information on these matters including the waronillegalpornagraphy.com and pornharms.com, a site dedicated to warning society about the damaging effects of pornography.
