This 4-month-old elephant calf is part of a specially trained team of endangered Sumatran elephants in Indonesia. This team, called Flying Squad, protects villages from wild elephants who encroach on their territory looking for food.

I can imagine the thoughts going through her head as she discovers the use of her trunk:

"I'm hungry. And what is it with this thing hanging from my face? Man, it's caught on some plants. Agh… (pulling away) Almost got it. Ack, that thing almost put those yummy plants in my mouth! Wait a minute…"
