Young Adult Christians Rarely Drink Alcohol According to Poll
More than half of young adult Christians either abstain or rarely partake in drinking alcohol, according to data collected by dating website ChristianCafe.com.
This conclusion surprised Christian Café’s Fred Moesker, who is in charge of online marketing for the site.
“I personally felt that the younger age groups would be drinking at a higher rate simply because society in general seems to be becoming more liberal in many ways,” Moesker told The Christian Post.

The site offers a multiple choice question while building your profile which asks the user, “Do you drink?” The answers available to the user include never, rarely, socially, regularly and recovering.
According to the data, not only did over half of older Christians choose never and rarely, but 65 percent of all users including young adults claimed drinking alcohol was not a common practice for them.
“I was curious about how many of our members abstain from drinking (most likely due to their beliefs) but then thought breaking that down by age grouping would tell a more interesting story,” said Moesker. “Turns out, across the board, it’s fairly consistent.”
The site feels this data proves a positive conclusion and Moesker’s colleague uses the word “promising” to describe the fact that younger Christians and older believers drink at similar levels.
“We feel it shows that younger Christians are as dedicated to their beliefs as more mature Christians are, despite mass media and the liberalization of society,” said Moesker.
But one can only speculate whether the users are telling the truth or not. Internet dating, and even internet communications as a whole, can prove to be a deceptive practice, with members of dating sites posting fake pictures and misleading potential daters with false information.
Still, Moesker feels the data is accurate.
“I think they are being honest,” he said. “For many, I’m guessing, this question is a deal breaker in terms of someone they want to marry, and thus would answer it honestly-as they would expect the same from others.”
And Christian Café is not a site for casual dating according to him.
“Our service is marriage focused-people are there to find their match for marriage,” said Moesker. “Also, by them specifically choosing a Christian dating service, I would argue any answers that can be linked to their beliefs would be answered quite honestly.”
All the data used in the sites study is current and from active dating profiles belonging to users of ChristianCafe.com.
