Young Sheldon Season 1 Updates: New Spin-off Wins Big In Ratings Game

The highly-anticipated debut of "The Big Bang Theory" spin-off called "Young Sheldon" performed well in the ratings game when CBS aired its pilot episode this week.

After the back-to-back premiere of the new spin-off and its parent series' 11th season, a report from The Hollywood Reporter claimed that "Young Sheldon" garnered an average of 3.8 rating among the adults age 18 to 49 demographics. It also attracted 17.2 million viewers at that time. This allowed the show to earn the recognition as the most-watched comedy premiere since "2 Broke Girls" in 2011 and beat the record of "The Crazy Ones" in 2013.

The Entertainment Weekly also revealed that the pilot episode of "Young Sheldon" became the highest-rated new show that aired on Monday, Sept. 25.

The new comedy series centers on the life of nine-year-old genius Sheldon Cooper, who is being portrayed by Jim Parsons in the parent series. The show will feature all of Sheldon's adventures as an accelerated high school student in East Texas while trying to blend well with his new school.

The series stars Ian Armitage as the young Sheldon Cooper, while Parsons lend his voice as the show's narrator. The cast also includes Zoe Perry as Sheldon's mother Mary, Lance Barber as Sheldon's dad George Cooper Sr., Raegan Revord as Sheldon's twin sister Missy, Montana Jordan as Sheldon's older brother George Jr., as well as Annie Potts as his beloved grandmother Meemaw.

CBS already released the second episode trailer of "Young Sheldon" which will be called "Rockets, Communist, And The Dewey Decimal System." It will feature the debut of Meemaw in the series, and she will be a constant fixture in Sheldon's life even up to his present day in "The Big Bang Theory."

The network will release the second episode of "Young Sheldon" season 1 on Thursday, Nov. 2, at exactly 8:30 p.m. EDT.
