'Ys Origin' Release Date, News: Yunica and Hugo Smash Gender Stereotypes in Latest Trailer

Games are not free from common beliefs that men are stronger than women, thus usually men engage in close combat while women are more of long-range fighters. This is something that "Ys Origin" is defying and proving that it can be the other way around.

In the latest trailer, Yunica Tovah is seen marching into the frontlines of battle while swinging an oversized battle ax. Her innocent looks can be deceiving as she is actually a ruthless close-range fighter. Hugo Fact, on the other hand, is adept at magic while using two orbs that follow him around and shoot long-range attacks. He remains invulnerable by keeping a safe distance while damaging enemies.

On the PlayStation blog post, DotEmu communication and marketing manager Jessica Iragne expressed her excitement for the title's rebirth after it was first released 10 years ago. "The biggest changes we made were to optimize the visuals and effects, and also improve the UI and menus so that players can enjoy the full HD widescreen experience," Iragne said.

Iragne also announced that "Ys Origin" is ready for launch on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) Feb. 21, while the PS Vita version had to be pushed back to May 30, saying they need more time in optimizing the title for the portable gaming console. She promised though that they are focusing on it and will be sure to deliver by then.

Netizens over at Twitter were very understanding about the developer's decision to delay the PS Vita version, although they asked if there would be a physical copy of the game. To this question, DotEmu replied that the game may only be released as a digital download.

Ever since an announcement trailer has been revealed during the PlayStation Experience 2016, fans have shown excitement over the return of a role-playing game (RPG) classic to the current gaming consoles. As such, PS4 owners will get to have it on Feb. 21 while the PS Vita version arrives on May 30.
