'Yuri!!! On Ice' Season 2 News: Publisher Restricts Blu-ray/DVD Exports; May Return Later in 2017
Fans of the popular sports anime "Yuri!!! On Ice" have been waiting with bated breath for an official season 2 confirmation. Although every hint thus far has pointed to the possibility of it, a definite release date would put a lot of fans at ease.
But an official season 2 announcement may still be a long time coming. The international release of season 1 Blu-rays and DVDs is not looking so promising either, according to a source.
Anime publisher Avex Pictures recently announced that it is restricting Blu-ray, DVD, and CD exports of all its titles as of Feb. 15. The news may be disheartening to international fans, who have been looking forward to the planned six Blu-ray/DVD discs of the phenomenal sports anime. However, locally licensed discs may be available soon from overseas publishers for fans who do not mind waiting for several more months.
On the brighter side, the entire first season of "Yuri!!! On Ice" was previously presented in an all-night screening on Feb. 11 at 10 p.m. JST. The event also included a talk show segment that featured the anime's creator, Mitsurou Kubo, and voice actors Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Yuri), Junichi Suwabe (Victor) and Kouki Uchiyama (Yurio).
The full event was streamed live to 47 cinemas around Japan, and at the end of it, a commemorative image of the anime's skaters posing for a groufie was shared online.
Meanwhile, a portion of an interview with Kubo was previously posted on Tumblr. The translation revealed that the anime creator has a lot of plans in the works for "Yuri!!! On Ice," including a desire to do a sequel, for which she would be working very hard to achieve.
Is it safe to assume then that a continuation to Victor and Yuri's professional journey and romantic affair could happen later this year? Only time will tell.
