YWAM's founder Loren Cunningham will be speaking at the Viva Latin America Conference in Brazil that will combine the biennal YWAM International Staff Conference and biannual University of the Nations Workshop.
The global conference will take place in Contargem, Brazil, from September 1-8, 2005. Organizers of the event are hoping that it will be a time of revival, especially since it follows YWAM's 50 Days of Prayer and Fasting initiative. Back in March, YWAM had encouraged thousands of people to pray about a specific region for each of the 50 days spanning from Easter to Pentecost.
"We want to see a new apostolic movement and new beginning for YWAM come out of this global prayer time" said Julie Spence, who is helping coordinate the event.
"Our YWAM leadership wants to see the fire of God revealed in Latin America," she continued. "We want to see Latin America lead out on the strategic pathway of world evangelism. We want YWAM staff from all over the world to come and be renewed with a fresh vision from the Lord."
A fews days before the event, the Global Leadership Team will be holding their biannual meetings, from August 24-31, 2005, and then join the conference. The University of the Nation's International Leadership Team (ILT) which also meets twice a year will be holding meetings during the conference.
The teams will meet to "seek His direction to build bridges to Asia and develop closer relationships," according to the conference's main website, www.vivalatinamerica.org.
A worker from YWAM's Office of the International President shared with The Christian Post that he felt that the evangelistic opportunities for the 2008 Olympics in China might be among the major topics of discussion.
International leaders such as YWAM founders Loren and Darlene Cunningham will be plenary speakers during the event. A variety of seminars and elective sessions will be offered to attendants including art seminars that will tie into a Regional Arts Festival.
While the conference will be give strength to YWAMers in Latin America, Loren Cunningham is asking that participants arrive early to visit some of the Latin America bases in a note posted on the event's website.
"Many of these bases in Latin America have never received a visit from an international leader in YWAM," he said. "I have recently heard of YWAM Uruguay and how they have not received a visit from anyone outside Latin America in the last 5 years. There are other similar stories."
"We believe there is an impartation of faith and evangelism that our Latin YWAMers can offer to our mission, especially as we go into China," Cunningham continued. "So please prayerfully consider this request and choose a location to visit."
A list of Latin American bases and their contact information is also posted on the website along with a recommended groups of cities to visit together. Of the Latin America regions including Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, South America, and Brazil, Brazil has most bases, totaling 51.
Over the last 40 years, YWAM has grow to more that 16,000 regular volunteers and missionaries in over 1,000 bases on every continent and in over 160 nations around the world.
