YWAMers Hold Third One Voice International Worship Event
Ten GENESIS centers from eight nations participated in the third One Voice international worship event on June 5, 2004. It was the first time that the GENESIS base in Jeju, South Korea, and Chapala, Mexico joined the video gathering, which was possible through the video conferencing technology that has been flourishing among Youth With A Mission centers.
The purpose of the One Voice event, which first took place last year on December 6, is to invite all GENESIS locations to connect together celebrating the diversity of His body as each location had an opportunity to be part of the worship and prayer time.
On a live message board for the event, Markus Steffen, International GENESIS Center Director who was recently commissioned as the base director for Lausanne, Switzerland, shared his reflection on the event.
God has met with us and the unity which was expressed through this assembly of the Nations has brought much glory to Jesus, he said. It was wonderful to experience the Word of the Lord and worship coming from many places. The linking of our arms and hands will bring much strength to all of us.
Steffen also read from the Scripture from John 17:20-23, which reads, "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
The other nine participating locations including: Kona (USA), Denver (USA), Barbados, Chapala (Mexico), Harpenden (UK), Chatel (Switzerland), J-Bay (S.Africa), Jeju (Korea), and Perth (Australia), also read from Scripture and performed worship songs.
Many worship styles gave a diversified flavor to the gathering. Jeju performed a traditional Korean song while a representative from Guardalajara, Mexico rapped.
GENESIS is an acronym that implies new beginnings, new ways to be linked together, to learn and work together, even though we may be thousands of kilometers apart, according to the GENESIS Web site. The name stands for Global, Electronic, Network, Educating, Serving, Inspiring, Students.
It is being used among Youth With A Missions University of the Nations classes, Multipoint Discipleship Training School, and GENESIS School.
The fourth One Voice event is scheduled for August 14, 2004.
