Zeta-Jones Bipolar: Actress Voluntarily Checks Into Treatment Facility for Bipolar II Disorder (VIDEO)
Catherine Zeta-Jones is having bipolar II disorder treatment, according to an announcement by her reps this week.
The announcement described that Zeta-Jones checked herself into a health care facility recently to receive treatment for bipolar II disorder. The rep explained that the Hollywood actress checked herself in voluntarily, simply seeking treatment to maintain her best health.
The spokeswoman told People Magazine: "Catherine has proactively checked into a health care facility … Previously Catherine has said that she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner."
It has previously been reported that Zeta-Jones completed treatment for the condition back in 2011, and that her latest stint in a treatment facility is simply part of her commitment to remain healthy. According to E! News, a friend of the actress has told the publication that she has decided to check herself into treatment now as she is between two large projects and the timing was right for her schedule.
The fiend said: "There was no big problem … This was just a good time to do it. She is in between projects. This has always been part of the plan. She would manage her health. She is vigilant about it."
After her treatment in 2011, Jones said: "This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them. If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help."
