5. Jonathan Turley: 'Media played a role in the greatest scam in political history'
In a column posted to his blog and in The Messenger Wednesday, George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley praised the Durham report as “dispassionate, detached and detailed” while lamenting that it will likely not “make a difference” in the way the FBI, political figures and the media conduct themselves.
“Durham was left throwing haymakers in an empty political boxing ring – and those who perpetrated this scandal on the nation are left to carry on making money on books, speeches, TV commentary and lectures about political or electoral ethics. The media, meanwhile, is offering little more than a shoulder-shrug and more spin,” he wrote.
“So, in the relative silence of media coverage following the report’s release, Durham can contemplate an ultimate Zen-like question: If a 305-page report proves a concerted political hoax but no one is there to read it, does it make a difference?” he asked. Throughout his column, Turley seemed to suggest that the answer to his question is no.

The law professor cited the attitude of the intelligence community and media toward the Hunter Biden laptop story that broke before the 2020 presidential election as evidence to disprove the FBI’s assertion that it had “reformed itself in light of his failures.” Turley also lamented that the Clinton campaign, the intelligence community and those who bought into the idea that Trump colluded with Russia had not offered “an apology” to the American people following the report’s release.
In an opinion piece for Fox News, Turley wrote: "For those interested in the truth about the Russian collusion investigation, the Durham Report has hundreds of pages of details of the alliance of political, government and media figures behind arguably the greatest hoax in U.S. history. The only thing it does not have is an actual indictment or true accountability for the critical players in an effort to derail an American presidency. Congress could change that.
He added: "Durham demolished the prior claims of Democratic members like Adam Schiff and many in the media. Durham concludes that the investigation should never have been launched.
"It turns out that the 'pee-tape' was the creation of a Clinton operative without any factual basis despite years of the media (and former FBI Director James Comey) referencing the false salacious claim.
"It turns out that Trump was correct that the FBI did spy on his campaign despite years of mocking denials in the media.
"Indeed, Trump was right that this was a manufactured hoax engineered by the Clinton campaign, weaponized by the FBI, and then promulgated by the media."
