Angel Studios’ Cabrini Tells True Story of the First American Saint
Angel Studios is slated to release its newest film, Cabrini, on March 8, International Women’s Day. Directed by Alejandro Monteverde, the award-winning director of Sound of Freedom, Cabrini is a powerful epic following Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889 and is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children.
Armed with a fearless spirit and compassionate heart, Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society's most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.
“Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspiring and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story. Faced with seemingly insurmountable life obstacles, Cabrini chose instead to focus on how she could change the status quo in her time, and her impact on the world is still felt today,”

After the unprecedented success Sound of Freedom, Director Alejandro Monteverde is excited to partner with Angel Studios once again to release Cabrini, a film that is very close to his heart.
Monteverde told Angel Studios President Jordan Harmon in a livestream,
“[Cabrini] was a fighter. She was someone who never gave up. She knew what she was capable of ... the power of one... every year they would tell her you have two years to live and she ... was able to live many decades."
He continued,
"The first time I read the screenplay, I was shocked that I didn't know anything about her... she was really a character that came to this country with nothing and built an empire as big as the Rockefellers and the Vanderbilts—but it was an empire of hope... she filled people with dignity."
Cabrini stars Cristiana Dell’Anna, John Lithgow, David Morse and Giancarol Giannini. This film emphasizes the hardships Cabrini battled on a daily basis, including persuading politicians, church leaders, and journalists to join her cause to care for immigrants. Her historic 1889 voyage to America was the first female-led mission in the history of the Catholic church. This high stakes mission meant that everyone, including Pope Leo XIII, was looking to her as proof of what women of faith could accomplish.
Cabrini’s faith and compassion empowered her to serve her purpose and improve the lives of impoverished children all over the world. Despite every reason to give up—from experiencing bigotry, sexism, and violence—Cabrini stands as a beacon to people everywhere that miracles can happen when you refuse to give up.
The film's release on International Women's Day is not by accident. Cabrini aims to honor and empower women from diverse backgrounds to find their mission and serve society, just like Cabrini did over 100 years ago.
