Windows 10 Review Summary: 10 Reasons to Upgrade to Windows 10

Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 updates last July 29, and slowly but surely, millions have been brought the update and are now experiencing the newest operating system of Microsoft, which according to most reports is supposed to be the "best operating system to date."

According to a Tech Times report, the new operating system brings with it a lot of new features. It basically sums up ten reasons why Windows users should upgrade to Windows 10.

Microsoft has brought back the Start menu, something that it removed in Windows 8, much to the dismay of Windows users who were looking for a place to start. In Windows 10, it can be found in the lower left-hand corner of the user interface. Once opened, users can find easy access to commonly used apps such as Calendar, Email, Internet among others. Those who do not want live tiles to appear in the Start menu can turn them off.

Another reason is that Windows Store apps will be appearing as "windowed apps," which means that when open, they will no longer appear as a full-screen app which is difficult to close or control by mouse. When it opens as a window, there will be a mouse-friendly toolbar as well.

Cortana, Microsoft's new personal digital assistant, is another new feature of Windows 10. This will be Cortana's first desktop appearance and in order for it to function properly, it needs the user's personal information as well as access to cloud-based intelligence so that it can provide the user with the information that the user needs. It is likened to Apple iOS' Siri.

A security feature that has been added in Windows 10 is called Hello. This allows users to log into their computers without needing to type their password. The new feature uses the computer's camera as well as infrared technology, but is still limited to a few computers primarily because of hardware specifications.

Internet Explorer is no longer in Windows 10. It has been replaced by Edge, a new browser. It includes Cortana support as well as a mode that allows users to take notes and scribble on web pages.

The Windows 10 Action Center is the new OS' notification panel, which can be accessed with a swipe from the right side of the screen or clicking on its icon in the task bar. Aside from providing app notifications, it also provides easy access to settings that are frequently used, such as Wi-Fi, volume settings, among others.

Windows 10 also added a feature called "virtual desktops" which allows users to organize different "desktops" based on common apps that they need for each desktop. With this feature, users can switch from one desktop to another, depending on what they want to use.

There is a set of apps that are at the core of Windows 10, and these apps are "totally revamped" in the new OS. These include Mail, Calendar, Maps and Photos, which already have Cortana integration. Cortana can make use of the information here to help the customize user experience.

What the report considered as one of Windows 10's biggest features is Continuum. This feature "allows users to utilize devices that have both desktop and tablet modes, without have to change the layout of their desktop." This is very useful especially for Surface Pro owners.

The final feature mentioned in the report is Xbox streaming. Although the feature is still in beta, it is promising especially for households who have Xbox users. It will allow Xbox players to use the computer to play their favorite Xbox games even when the TV is in use. Gamers can also record their gameplay on their computers.
