'12 Monkeys' Series Renewed for Fourth and Final Season
Ahead of the show's season 3 premiere, Syfy has recently announced that it has renewed its critically-acclaimed original series "12 Monkeys" for a fourth and final season.
Aside from its season 4 renewal, the network also announced that the series will be premiering all 10 episodes of the season over three consecutive nights, beginning on Friday, May 19 up to Sunday, May 21 at 8 p.m. EDT. The first four episodes will air on Friday, while three more episodes will be airing each night on Saturday and Sunday.
"'12 Monkeys' has a dedicated and enthusiastic fanbase thanks to the epic storytelling by Terry Matalas and the stellar cast and crew," Jeff Wachtel, president and chief content officer of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"We are thrilled to be able to offer fans an opportunity to binge the third season as a reward for their lasting support, and we couldn't be more excited to see where Terry takes us with the final chapter of this fabulous story in the fourth season," he added.
"12 Monkeys" is based on the 1995 feature film and follows the journey of James Cole (Aaron Stanford), who is sent back in time from a dark and terrible future to prevent it from becoming a reality.
Cole joins forces in the present with Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) in order to defeat a centuries-old organization known as the Army of the 12 Monkeys. As Cole, Railly and their allies get closer to the truth, they learn the costly price that must be paid for all of history and time itself.
Aside from Schull and Stanford, "12 Monkeys" also stars Kirk Acevedo as José Ramse, Emily Hampshire as Jennifer Goines, Barbara Sukowa as Katarina Jones and Todd Stashwick as Theodore Deacon. They will be joined in season 3 by recurring guest stars Hannah Waddingham, Faran Tahir and James Callis. Emmy Award-winner Christopher Lloyd is also set to appear in a guest-starring role as a sinister cult leader.
"12 Monkeys" season 3 is set to air its episodes on Friday, May 19 up to Sunday, May 21.
