'13 Reasons Why' Delay News: Show Halts Production Due to California Wildfires

"13 Reasons Why" season 2 could be delayed, as the production of the Netflix show was shut down since Monday, Oct. 9. The breakout drama, executive produced by Selena Gomez, could not continue filming in the wildfire-ravaged area of Vallejo in Northern California.

The show is taking an unplanned break while waiting for the wildfires currently running rampant all over Northern California to get under control. Fires in the area could not be contained, and the resulting smoke makes filming the new season of "13 Reasons Why" impossible, according to Deadline.

This hiatus was extended until Thursday, Oct. 12, with filming set to resume later on Sunday after the scheduled two-day break. Cast and crew members are hoping that conditions would have improved by then. For now, several of them have been flown home, especially those who were living in the areas affected by the fire.

The cast and crew of "13 Reasons Why" took to social media to reach out to those affected by the fires. Dylan Minnette posted his thoughts on Wednesday, Oct. 11, saying: "We film 13 Reasons Why in many of the areas in NorCal affected by these devastating fires."

"Sending love and thoughts to everyone involved," he added.

Devin Druid, who plays Tyler in the show, started a chain of posts to link fans to organizations working to help the victim of the fires. "I can't check the validity of all atm, but will delete any that take advantage," he noted at the start of his posts.

At least 23 deaths have been reported with hundreds still missing as dry winds ship up massive wildfires across the state, according to ABC. By the latest count, firefighters were battling 22 wildfires across California counties by Wednesday.
