14-Pound Baby Photo Goes Viral: Utah Baby Biggest in US for 2013? (VIDEO)
A 14-pound baby has been born in Utah, with photos of the newborn going viral after being born to parents Sarah and Joel Brandon.
The baby has been named Joel Brandon Jr. and was born back in May, but news of the large bundle of joy has only gone viral recently. When J.J. was born his parents were reportedly shocked at his size. Ultrasounds had prepared them for a big baby, but had only estimated that J.J. would be about 11 pounds. However, when J.J. arrived he weighed a whopping 14 pounds.
It is thought that J.J. could be the heaviest baby born in the United States this year. His size particularly came as a shock as the parents have also had twin girls previously, and they were born at less than a third of the size of J.J., at just 4 pounds each.
J.J. moved straight into size 2 diapers and is already wearing the same size diapers as his 2 year old sisters.
J.J.'s mother has said, "When he came out and they put him on the scale and it said 14 pounds even, I was very shocked, to say the least."
The experienced doctor told Sarah that it was the biggest baby that he personally had ever delivered; it took two obstetricians to deliver him because J.J. was already expected to be big, however, even they were left shocked at his size when he finally came out.
J.J. was put in neonatal intensive care for the first 10 days of his life after suffering some lung problems, however, he has recovered well and been healthy since leaving the hospital. He was born May 9 at the Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem. Recently it was reported that J.J. has continued to grow well and weighed in at 23 pounds at his four month checkup.
