'16 & Pregnant' Star Nikkole Paulun Reveals Miscarriage, Says Son 'Went to Heaven'

"16 & Pregnant" star Nikkole Paulun has gone public with the news that she had a miscarriage last month. The teen mom already has one 3-year-old son and had to break the news to him after the loss of her second child.

Paulun was due to give birth on September 1, but told Radar Online that in late July she "felt really weird all day" and told her mother that "something didn't feel right." She went to the doctor, not expecting anything to be wrong, but tragedy was in store for the young mother.

"We saw a doctor to try and find the heartbeat and they couldn't find it," Paulun said. "But I thought I still felt him moving, so they took me for an ultrasound and they weren't letting me look at it when they did it. She got up to get something else, so I knew something was wrong."

Several doctors were consulted and reviewed the ultrasound and came to the conclusion that the baby had died in-utero. Then worse news came… not only was Paulun's baby dead, she still had to go through labor and deliver the baby boy in order to protect her own health.

The baby boy, named Ashton, was born after nine hours of labor. Paulun decided not to receive the autopsy results; the procedure had to be carried out given his premature death. The doctors also tested for drugs to make sure that he was not killed by a harmful substances; thankfully, the results came back negative.

"I cried. I was like in shock," she said. "I just couldn't understand why and I was confused. I didn't think that was actually going to happen. When he was born, they took him and they drug tested him to make sure I didn't do drugs and kill him."

Paulun still had to break the news to her 3-year-old son Lyle, whose birth was featured on "16 & Pregnant" in 2010. She told the boy that his brother had gone to Heaven. The family then mourned their loss privately and cremated Ashton's remains after the autopsy.

"When I found out he was a boy, I bought a teddy bear and we had him sewed inside his teddy bear," Paulun revealed. "And when I pray, I'll hold the teddy bear. I'm just still confused and in shock. I did really love him."
