'18if' Episode 11 Spoilers: Mystery Behind the Sleeping Beauty Syndrome to Be Revealed?

At the end of this week's episode, it was hinted at that the series protagonist, Haruto, may quite possibly be afflicted with the Sleeping Beauty Syndrome himself. Will the reason behind this finally be revealed on the next episode of the Japanese anime series, "18if"?

It has been a while since Professor Kanzaki's purpose for coming into the Dream World was revealed: that is, his own sister has been suffering from the Sleeping Beauty Syndrome. And when he said that he has finally found someone who could help him wake her up, it was easy to assume that he meant Haruto.

But what he said to the tenth witch, Hanako, has just turned that possibility on its head and has made fans speculate that the professor may have not, after all, been referring to Haruto as the person whom he thought could help him with his sister.

On the contrary, when Hanako asked him how long has Haruto been asleep, he answered, "I'll be needing your help before long."

Could the professor have been referring to the Witches all along? And if so, does this give merit to fan speculations about Haruto being quite possibly the dream form of Kanzaki's sister?

After all, anything can happen in a dream, as shown in the visually erratic episode directed by Koji Morimoto. Moreover, last week's episode also proved that gender-bending is possible in the Dream World.

The speculations further point at Lily being a split personality of Haruto's.

But if all of these are true, what could a witch like Hanako do to help wake Haruto up? It seems that some answers may be revealed in the upcoming episode titled "The Thorn Cross Association." Since Lily's brief teaser made specific references to the fairy tale, "The Sleeping Beauty," this may well be the episode that finally shed some light on this mysterious condition that has been affecting a growing number of girls in the real world.

"18if" airs on Fridays at 10 p.m. JST on Tokyo MX and on Saturdays at 9 p.m. JST on AT-X. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site. Episodes are also available in selected regions outside Japan via Crunchyroll.
