'19 Kids and Counting' Season 10: Episode 17 Recap, Baby Dilly is Born After Jill Goes Into 70-Hour Labor
This week, on a very special episode of "19 Kids and Counting," Jill and the rest of the Duggar family celebrate Derick's birthday, and Jill goes into labor for 70 hours, which made her and Derick change their original birth plan.
Jill gives her two midwives a tour of her home, where she plans to give birth to Baby Dilly in a birth pool. Derick says that he has no idea what was involved in birthing a baby but says that he wants to help anyway.
"I want to be there to catch," he says.
Later, Jill and Derick spend some time with Derick's mom, and all three of them went out and got pedicures at a spa. That night, the couple's family and friends threw them a baby shower, and even though it's customary for men to not be at the shower, Derick was there, as well as his brother Dan and brother-in-law Ben Seewald.
Later, Jim Bob admits that he doesn't think he has been at any of his 19 kids' baby showers and says, "I think that dads should take more in a role in that. I should've gone [to the baby showers]."
On another day, Michelle and Bob decide to pass down Josie's old crib to Baby Dilly. They bring the crib over to Jill and Derick's house and help them put it together. Later, Michelle uses a few dolls to teach the younger girls how to change, feed, and burp a baby in preparation for Baby Dilly's arrival.
On Derick's birthday, the Duggars come together to help him celebrate, and Jim Bob gave him some hilarious gifts, including a diaper tool box and a baby onesie printed with instructions on how to dress a baby. Then, everyone decided to decorate the baby's room, which turned out really well. But the best present of all was yet to come, as Derick's mom handed him a letter from his late father. As Derick reads the letter aloud, there wasn't a dry eye in the room.
At 3 a.m., Jill's water breaks. Because it was still early, she decided to go back to bed while her contractions are still far apart.
17 hours into her labor, the birthing pool has been set up and the contractions were kicking in very hard. At 20 hours, Michelle, Jana, and the two midwives arrived.
48 hours into her labor, she was told that the baby was fine but since it was taking longer than usual, they decided to go to the hospital.
At the hospital, Jill is 60 hours into her labor and was given an epidural. Not long after, the doctor decided to do a C-section as he said, "I just feel like it's time to do what safety calls for."
Finally, Israel David Dillard was born on April 6 at 11:49 p.m. He weighed 9 lbs and 10 ounces.
"He's worth every contraction," said Jill. "Every pain that I had all this long labor. Just getting to see that little baby and hold him, everything, just … well worth it."
"19 Kids and Counting" airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on TLC.
