20 Concertgoers Hospitalized, Hundreds More Treated for Heat-Related Illnesses at 2018 Vans Warped Tour
A number of concertgoers were not able to take the heat during the Vans Warped Tour at the Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee.
Tennessean revealed that about 20 people had been brought to nearby hospitals while 200 others were treated due to heat-related illnesses on Tuesday, July 10. The temperature at the concert grounds at that time reached as high as 92 degrees.
Nashville Fire Department spokesperson Joseph Pleasant said that the 20 patients were brought by the fire crews and Vanderbilt University Medical Center paramedics. "We anticipate more as the first aid tent continues to stay full," Pleasant stated.
Public Information Officer Jerry Jones from Vanderbilt LifeFlight also shared that at least five of the gravely ill patients were taken to children's hospitals within the vicinity.
WSMV TV Nashville mentioned that the concert officials already built 16 water tends that came with free water and ice for those who will join the concert.
The 2018 Vans Warped Tour was reportedly expecting to gather as much as 15,000 concertgoers as soon as the gates open at 6 a.m. The concert was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and ends at 9 p.m., where 60 bands are scheduled to perform.
The list of artists who were included in the music festival's line-up include Asking Alexandria, Black Veil Brides, 20H!3, Beartooth, Bowling for Soup, Mayday Parade, Cassadee Pope, Sum 41, Taking Back Sunday, All Time Low, Falling In Reverse, Authority Zero, Simple Plan, Crown the Empire, August Burns Red, Tatiana DeMaria, as well as a long list of local lineup.
Aside from the hot weather, drivers around the vicinity were also warned to expect extra traffic at The Fairgrounds Nashville during the concert proper.
Reports claimed that the drivers should expect big traffic delays from 9 a.m. up to 2 p.m. in both the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 65 located near the Wedgewood Avenue exit.
Concertgoers are expected to take extra caution during the event.
