2015 Mod of the Year: 'Lord of the Rings' Mod as Most Popular; 'Fallout' Included in Top 10
Mod DB has finally announced the winners of the 2015 Mod of the Year award as voted by the community.
Mod DB, a site that's dedicated to mods or fan-made add-on content, recently concluded its 14th annual Mod of the Year Awards. Mod DB's Mod of the Year award is an annual honor given to the best mods as voted by its community.
There were 100 nominated mods and the community only had 20 days to vote for their favorites. The nominated mods received 7.1 million visitors and more than 100,000 votes.
Mod DB announced the winners on Tuesday, Dec. 29. First place went to Edain Mod, an add-on that is inspired by the "Lord of the Rings" epic battle for Middle Earth. Rise of the Red and Mental Omega were also popular with the community and bagged second and third places, respectively. Fallout: Project Brazil, a mod that adds a new character and story to the game, also made it to the top 10 at no. 8.

Mods are a way to keep the game current for members of the community who are still playing them. As those up-to-date with gaming might notice, most of these games were released way back in the early 2000s. For instance, "Command & Conquer: Generals: Zero Hour" was launched in 2003, while "Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge" was released in 2000.
