MVP Picks for 2016 NBA Finals – Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving and LeBron James: Who's the Best MVP Material?
Meet the Players Eyeing the NBA MVP Award
The 2016 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers has been one of the most heated series in recent finals history, with no team looking like they are ready to lose. As the two teams clash in the court, here are some potential MVP bets this season.
Although the NBA is a team sport, the league chooses a player from one of the teams as the most valuable player of the series. While any member of the either team is eligible to win the award, normally, a player from the winning team is chosen. Last year Andre Iguodala won the Finals MVP award, mostly due to the terrific defensive play he showed while guarding Cleveland star Lebron James.
Check out the list of possible MVPs for the NBA 2016.
Klay Thompson
If one is talking about the best scorer of the finals so far, then Klay Thompson has to be on this list. Thompson is one of the biggest threats that Golden State have on offense. So far, he has been scoring almost at will, averaging 22.1 points per game.
In a loss during Game 5 of the NBA Finals, Thompson was the leading scorer of the team with 37 points. However, Thompson can be a streaky shooter at times and can easily have an off night similar to what happened in Game 1, where he scored only 9 points.
Stephen Curry
The current league MVP is also certainly one of the biggest reasons why Golden State have gotten so far as well. Curry has been on fire this series, averaging 30.1 points per game. Curry has quickly built a reputation for being one the best 3-point shooters in the league. The team's heart and soul revolves around him, who is known to be emotional on and off the court.
However, it should be noted that Curry's knees and ankles are prone to injury. He even was forced to sit out a few games earlier in the playoffs.
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving has truly had a breakout finals series, being able to assist LeBron James for score quality baskets. Currently, Irving is averaging 19.6 points per game, but it was his impeccable performance in Game 5, where he scored 41 point, and limited Stephen Curry, that made him stand out.
Howver, Irving is also prone to injury and spent most of last year's finals on the bench in street clothes.
LeBron James
Of course, LeBron James would be a candidate for the NBA Finals MVP. The king has been averaging over 25 points including 7.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game.
Considered as the core of his team, King James has the ability to score, rebound and play solid defense. Cleveland would not be the same if, for any reason, James would not be available for Game 6.
James, however, has seemed to slow down at times and has not looked as dominating. If Cleveland wants to win, he cannot do all the heavy lifting on offense.
Game 6 of the 2016 NBA Finals will be on Thrusday, June 16.
