2016 New York Fashion Week: Men's – Designers and Their Spring/Summer Collection for 2017
Up-coming designers open New York Fashion Week: Men's with laid-back, casual and comfortable collections.
Industria Studios at lower Manhattan was the exclusive venue for this year's New York Fashion Week: Men's. The fashion event highlighted new and established brands in the fashion industry presenting their Spring/Summer collection for 2017.
The show started with a look at five of the most promising brands showcasing their latest collections. One of these brands is an Italian name, David Naman that recently debuted in the U.S. after a resounding success in the Asian and European markets.
David Naman collections featured smart and casual pieces that can be worn in the workplace or out on a stroll. Crisp white unbuttoned jackets over tropical-inspired tops and light denim were the brand standouts. The Fashionisto @thefashionisto tweeted #DavidNaman collections as its models graced the catwalk.
Julian Woodhouse designs were also a standout featuring a combination of bold prints and colors. It was a delight for the audience to see a modern fashion brand showcasing a few pointers from gentlemen of the 1920s. NYT Fashion @NYTFashion tweeted positive comments for Julian Woodhouse saying "Julian Woodhouse is a lieutenant in the Army- and a rising fashion designer."
David Hart gave the audience an eye-full of his Californian surf culture-inspired collection. It featured custom bamboo, tropical prints and surfboard prints created in Japan, Italy and England. Laid-back, long-haired models graced the catwalk with designs from the 60s and 70s. TEEJ NEPOMUCENO @teejnepomuceno tweeted about David Hart's collection saying that it channels 60s surf culture.
Rio Uribe, who won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2015, continues to make fashion with unisex designs. For his new collection under the Gypsy Sports label, the New York fashion guru said that his line can be used as sportswear, fantasy wear and evening wear. It's "a big mashup" Rio Uribe said, "I love having a unisex clothing line. I think it's really nice to make a splash in the gender market. We're showing men's week but we're showing men and women on the runways so that's pretty cool."
Gypsy Sport models walked the ramp wearing brightly-colored wigs with some underneath sports caps. Some models wore colored contact lenses while some had faces with white and blue makeup. An eye-catching world map fabric pattern was also used to construct some of their pieces. Later, Gypsy Sport @gypsysport tweeted @EsterDean in Gypsy Sport for @InterviewMag with the singer/actress/producer wearing one of their collections.
The New York Fashion Week: Men's was held July 11 to 14, 2016.
