2016 Tesla Model X SUV News: Auto Eligible for up to $25,000 HUMMER Tax Break

With so much to offer aside from its 259-hp electric motor, buyers will definitely be in for the new report that the 2016 Tesla Model X SUV is eligible for the famed "Hummer deduction" that was applied to the Hummer brand years back.

According to Autoblog, Tesla Motors has confirmed that the new vehicle weighs 5,441 pounds. The numbers will most likely exceed 6,000 pounds in its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). This means it qualifies for the Section 179 tax break that allows the federal government to deduct $25,000 off the tag price of a new Model X.

The outlet said Tesla's Alexis Georgeson indeed acknowledged the possibility for the so-called "Hummer deduction," but he also noted that "Tesla always encourages its customers to consult with their personal tax accountant as each individual's tax situation may be different and Tesla does not guarantee this deduction."

In addition to the rule that an auto should exceed a GVWR of 6,000, Section 179 also requires that the vehicle "be acquired for business use and it should be "an integral part of...furnishing transportation." While the Model X SUV can achieve the said requirements, some outlets commented that non-business owners can always opt for the standard $7,500 tax break.

Tesla Motors described its 2016 Model X as a vehicle that best fits those who have a love for speed and safety at the same time. The seven-seater sports a 90 kWh battery that means it can go for up to 250 miles, and since Tesla is known for its capability in speed, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 3.2 seconds.

The new model will come in two variants: the P90D Signature and the P90D Founder. Both will feature the "falcon wing" doors concept seen in the Model S. Executive Elon Musk has said earlier that the falcon wings will help ease troubles of getting into the rear seat.
