2017 Ford Shelby GT500 rumors and news: New Shelby will have 'weight savings'

People have been gawking at the new Shelby GT350 and GT350R, but car enthusiasts still have more coming with the new Shelby GT500. According to Horsepower Kings, there are fresh reports from Detroit that Ford is currently working hard on making the new Shelby. While the powerplant is still unknown at this point, the website reported that the engine could go over the 700 horsepower mark. This is "all while breathing through a straw," according to the report.

The new GT500 was recently reported to stick with its traditional lobe crankshaft, instead of the 5.2L GT350 platform. However, Ford Blogs said that Ford may maintain the GT500's current six-speed handbook transmission.

The website also reported that the new Shelby will have "weight savings." Recent reports confirmed that Ford heavily invested with aluminum tools and materials, which will be used primarily for the F-150 series. However, Ford has also implemented the weight savings with the GT350 and GT350R, with its aluminum fenders and carbon fiber wheels. Car lovers would also love to see that translated into the new GT500, making it one of the "heavyweights" in the weight-saving category.

Everyone in the car world knows that the "Hellcat" is giving over 700 horsepower, and Ford will be a fool not to match or take it one step further. According to a Ford rep during an interview with CNN, the American car company is ready to "bring it" for their clients. "Our new SVT Halo Mustang will have more HP than the Hellcat," the rep said.

Still, reports said that the GT500 model will be released as a 2017 edition car. Shelby fans will just have to stay tuned for more info to confirm if the new Shelby GT500 indeed would really have over 700 horsepower and would only weigh 3,600 pounds.
