2017 Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster News: 'California Car' Is a Particularly Enjoyable Ride

The Los Angeles Auto Show is one of the most-anticipated car shows every year, and with the presentation of new models from various top automakers, Mercedes-Benz isn't lagging behind as it unveiled the 2017 SL Roadster.

Mercedes-Benz has had a long history of powerful cars that not only boast of highly developed engines but also feature the luxury that many of its clients adore.

With the new SL Roadster, potential buyers should expect a whole new experience as it offers more power than its predecessor, and according to Auto News, it will come with "California fun." The term was coined after the company decided that the new model should be of strong appeal to customers in the west coast who usually go for the "performance" type of cars.

CEO of Mercedes-Benz U.S.A. Steve Cannon noted that the car was first released in Beverly Hills since the company is looking to acquire clients from the said area who will take interest in the new SL Roadster.

"This is a California car. It's a performance car. It's about driving enjoyment. In California there's a very healthy car culture, so there is a place for cars like this here," he said, further explaining that the state has proven to be a melting pot for sales of the previous SL models.

Aside from its low and sleek built that the California people are fond of, the car is suitable for stop-and-go traffic situations. It will feature a cruise-control system that adapts to the conditions that require it to completely stop such as in traffic jams.

Customers can choose between a 3.0-liter V6 or a 4.7-liter V8 engine, with the first offering 362 horsepower, and the latter offering 449. For a more advanced driving experience, Mercedes-Benz came up with four modes namely: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and the Individual mode, which allows for customization.

The German automaker is planning to put the tag price at over $100,000, and while Cannon admitted that there are challenges to be faced in terms of pricing due to the fall of the model in 2008 and 2009, he said the company believes in its SL community and their interest in the new SL Roadster.
