2018 Buick Regal Sportback, TourX: Hatchback, Wagon Body Styles Introduced Ahead of NYIAS Debut
Buick has introduced two variants for the 2018 Regal — Sportback and TourX. The former comes in a hatchback body style while the latter serves as a station wagon-crossover hybrid.
Both models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 250 horsepower. The Sportback is equipped with a front-wheel drive system and a nine-speed automatic transmission which translates to 260 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the TourX comes standard with an all-wheel drive system with an active twin-clutch differential as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup yields 295 pound-feet of torque.
The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback features a sleek, coupe-like design. It delivers performance akin to a premium sports sedan but offers more versatility via its five-door layout and split-folding second row seats. Inside, the Sportback features a driver-centric cabin with a streamlined design and premium materials.
The all-new Regal hatchback is also equipped with an advanced body structure which is stiffer and stronger than its predecessor. It also translates to more athletic handling and enhanced efficiency.
The Sportback will be available in four trims — Regal, Preferred, Preferred II and Essence.
Meanwhile, the 2018 Regal TourX delivers the driving dynamics of a car but offers the kind of performance and versatility that is usually seen in a crossover. It has a rugged and confident exterior design that is mated to a luxurious interior with premium materials and modern technologies.
Compared to the Sportback, the TourX has a higher ride height and is 3.4 inches longer. It is also offered in three trims — TourX, Preferred and Essence.
Standard features for the Sportback and TourX include push-button start and entry, Hill Start Assist, 10 airbags, a universal home remote, heated side mirrors and a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Customers can also opt for the 8-inch infotainment system with navigation as well as a Bose premium audio system.
In terms of crash prevention and protection, both models come standard with Front Pedestrian Braking and Lane Keep Assist. Optional Driver Confidence packages will add other active safety features such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, Forward Collision Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Automatic Braking.
The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback and TourX will make their official debut at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) next week. They are scheduled to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2017.
