2018 Ford Explorer Updates Include Facelifted Design, Better Tech
Ford has introduced the 2018 Explorer, which receives a few minor updates ahead of a major redesign slated for the 2019 model year. Nevertheless, the full-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) is still an alluring choice for customers as it brings in an upgraded design and more available technology.
Design-wise, the 2018 Ford Explorer comes with a facelifted front fascia and a redesigned rear. Specifically, the vehicle gains a new front grille, fog light assembly and revised bumpers.
The automaker has also given the full-size SUV better technology. The 2018 Explorer is available with a 4G modem that enables a Wi-Fi hotspot that can support up to 10 different devices and can sustain connections even from as far as 50 feet.
With SYNC Connect, owners can access their vehicle remotely, specifically with tasks like starting, unlocking and locating the vehicle. Moreover, they can even access important diagnostic information.
Ford is also offering the 2018 Explorer with the new Safe and Smart Package which includes driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, blind-spot information system, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping system, auto high-beams and rain-sensing wipers.
Prospective customers will be able to choose from three different powertrains. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine produces 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque while the 3.5-liter V6 variant yields 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque.
For those needing more power, the Explorer Sport and Platinum trims will be powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine that delivers 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. It also comes with new quad exhaust tips.
Furthermore, the 2018 Ford Explorer is available in four new exterior color options — Burgundy Velvet Tinted Clearcoat, Cinnamon Glaze, Platinum Dune Tricoat and Blue Metallic. There are also five new wheel designs to choose from.
The 2018 Ford Explorer will arrive in dealerships in the fall. Pricing will be announced closer to its official launch.
