2018 Honda Accord Hybrid Release Date, Specs, Price News: New Model Ups Trunk Space and Performance

The 2018 Honda Accord, and the accompanying Accord Hybrid, is Honda's bid to keep the sedan ahead of today's crossover SUV-dominated market. The new Accord, with its slew of updates, looks to keep it competitive with the top crossovers in several ways.

The new Accord models argue their case by presenting a blend of fuel economy and practicality that rivals the most pragmatic of SUVs out there today. With an expanded trunk, improved characteristics and unparalleled efficiency of the Hybrid model, the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid looks to stage a comeback when it launches early next year, according to CNET.

One of the things that previous owners of the Accord Hybrid will notice with the new model is the cavernous trunk space. Previously, batteries took up a large section of the space behind the rear seats. Now, the battery cells are integrated into the car chassis, leaving 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space available for use.

As part of their strides in being more fuel efficient, the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid has a regenerative braking system that Car and Driver describes as "natural, surprisingly firm, and progressive for a hybrid; it's near perfect."

Honda has worked on refining the Accord concept for the 2018 line, but the overall perception is the same — an affordable sedan that drives like a more expensive car. At $28,000, it's a package that focuses on practicality.

The 2018 Accord Hybrid seems to focus on city driving as well. The new model tackles hills with a combination of high revs and quiet lulls that can be unnerving at times, which could be attributed to most of the force being supplied by a 181 horsepower electric motor.

Honda claims that this could improve by the time that the car launches early next year. For now, Honda fans can stay tuned in for more early reviews, as well as sign up for updates at Honda's official website.
