2018 Infiniti QX50 Release Date, Specs News: 'Most Advanced' Car Ever Teased for Los Angeles Auto Show

Infiniti announced that their most advanced car ever will make its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month. Though the luxury brand did not reveal specific details, car enthusiasts expect it to be the much-awaited redesign of the QX50.

Apart from the announcement, Infiniti also released a teaser sketch. Though the image only shows a slim roofline of what could be a new crossover, anticipation for the upcoming vehicle is high as the automaker called it "the most advanced Infiniti in our history."

Since the unveiling of the 2018 QX80 SUV is already confirmed for the Dubai International Motor Show on Nov. 14, many expect that it will be the second-generation QX50 crossover that will make its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The QX50 hasn't been updated since 2015, so a redesign is long overdue.

This speculation seems to have some merit, as, according to Motor Trend, the design sketch is very similar — if not exactly like — the image that was released ahead of the QX50 Concept's introduction at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit last January.

The production version of the new QX50 will most likely be inspired by the QX50 Concept. The latter was introduced with autonomous driving technologies, such as high-tech laser scanners, radar and cameras, as well as the world's first VC-Turbo engine. The powertrain has variable compression which adapts depending on driving conditions which then translates to optimized performance and efficiency.

On the other hand, there is a chance that a different vehicle may be unveiled by Infiniti. According to Motor1, the "most advanced Infiniti" could be a new concept vehicle that is powered by an electric powertrain and likewise equipped with autonomous driving technology.

The mysterious vehicle's identity will be officially unmasked at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 4 p.m. PST/7 p.m. EST.
