2018 Lexus LS 500h Release Date, Specs News: Four-Door Sedan Features Hybrid Powertrain, Luxurious Cabin
Lexus took the wraps off the 2018 LS 500h, the full hybrid version of the automaker's flagship sedan, at the Geneva Motor Show.
Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the all-new LS 500h is the new Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System which incorporates a 3.5-liter V6 Dual VVT-I gas engine, capable of 295 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery.
Overall power output is rated at 354 horsepower and the hybrid can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 5.4 seconds. The innovative powertrain is equipped with a four-stage shifting device that delivers performance similar to a 10-speed gearbox. This translates to a vehicle that is smooth, efficient and more responsive to driver inputs.
The 2018 Lexus LS 500h uses Lexus' new Luxury (GA-L) platform architecture. It ensures a low center of gravity, ideal weight distribution and a highly rigid chassis. Braking, steering and stability systems also help the vehicle deliver a dynamic driving performance.
The four-door hybrid sedan features a bold and sophisticated design highlighted by a long wheelbase and a coupe-like silhouette. It is identical to its non-hybrid sibling, the LS 500, which was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the LS 500h's luxurious and innovative cabin was inspired by Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship, which is seen in the hybrid's unique door trim, interior lighting, pleating treatment and Kiriko glasswork. The use of new trims and materials such as wood grain and laser-cutting technologies also demonstrate the automaker's exceptional attention to detail.
The cabin is equipped with power-adjustable seats with heating, cooling and massage functions. Lexus is also offering an optional layout that includes an expanding leg ottoman for passengers.
In terms of safety, the 2018 LS 500h is available with the Advanced Safety Package which includes a Pedestrian Detection system with Active Steering.
The 2018 Lexus LS 500h will go on sale later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced.
