2018 Volkswagen Arteon Release Date, Specs News: Four-Door Coupe with Elegant Fastback Styling Revealed
The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon recently made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The newest addition to the German automaker's lineup is a premium four-door coupe with a coupe-like fastback design and offers more space than conventional sedans.
In terms of aesthetics, the Arteon is dynamic and elegant. It features design elements typically seen in sports cars such as athletic lines, a stretched roofline, prominent shoulders, muscular fenders, flared wheel arches and aluminum alloy wheels. The five-seat fastback also comes with a unique front fascia where the LED headlamps and daytime running lights merge with the radiator grille and hood.
The new coupe was built using the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform. It has dynamic proportions with a very long wheelbase, measuring at 111.9 inches. This translates to a spacious cabin with generous legroom and luggage space. The Arteon is also 191.4 inches long, 73.7 inches wide and 56.2 inches tall, which allows it to sit above the Volkswagen Passat.
Inside, standard features include a leather multifunction steering wheel, six-way power adjustable front seats, electronically controlled air conditioning system, stainless steel door kickplates, a head-up display, the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and the 9.2-inch Discover Pro system infotainment system.
The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon is available in two trims — Elegance and R-Line. The latter puts more focus on luxury and design while the latter offers sportier components.
Volkswagen is offering the new Arteon with six turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection engines. The entry-level petrol and diesel variants deliver 148 horsepower while the top petrol and diesel models are able to produce 276 and 236 horsepower, respectively. The more powerful powertrains come standard with DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Driver-assistance and safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Assist, Driver Alert System and the Progressive Steering system.
The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon will go on sale in Germany this June. Meanwhile, the new coupe will arrive in the United States in mid-2018 as a 2019 model.
