'24: Legacy' Cast News: '24' Reboot's Female Lead will be Miranda Otto
"Homeland" alum Miranda Otto is set to work on another espionage/political thriller, this time in the forthcoming Fox reboot of "24." Like the 2014 limited event television series "24: Live Another Day," the new series, titled "24: Legacy," will consist of 12 episodes.
Otto's is the second major casting for the new "24" reboot, after that of Corey Hawkins, which was announced earlier last week. Hawkins, who also appears in AMC's "The Walking Dead" and who starred in last year's acclaimed "Straight Outta Compton," was cast in the lead role. The part, Fox CEO Dana Walden said, "was originally conceived as being a diverse actor."
The new Jack Bauer-less "24" will reportedly retain the original's format, but will have an entirely new cast. According to TVLine, Otto will play the female lead, Rebecca Ingram, the former Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) chief. In "24: Legacy," Ingram will be rethinking her decision to leave the counter-terrorism agency. The character is reportedly married to Senator John Donovan, the casting for whom is underway.

"24: Legacy" will tell the story of a decorated army vet (Hawkins) who finds himself struggling to get back to a normal life upon his return to the U.S. To save his life and to stop a large-scale terror attack on U.S. soil, the new hero will seek help from the CTU.
Though Kiefer Sutherland, who played the "24" lead Jack Bauer in the original series for eight seasons, will not appear in "24: Legacy," TVLine reports that the actor may serve as an executive producer on the reboot. Sutherland recently commented on the upcoming revival, saying, "I have said from the beginning that the real star of '24' is the idea, and I mean that wholeheartedly."
"I have every faith they'll do something cool and clever," the actor added.
No official release date has been announced yet for "24: Legacy."
