488 Spider: All about Ferrari's new supercar
Ferrari's highly anticipated 488 Spider has been unveiled, and the new supercar is taking the company to another level of function and grace in one.
Head designer at Ferrari Flavio Manzoni spoke to CNN's Jared Zaugg and shared the journey toward unveiling the supercar that buyers can actually customize into their "exact" preferences.
During this year's IAA Frankfurt Motorshow, the supercar was seen to sport blistering speed that proves so much in the handling, agility, sound of its engine, and design that do not just incorporate state-of-the-art technologies but combine traditional craftsmanship that Ferrari has always been proud of.
All the hard work then resulted to the modern but classical, yet purposeful and stylish model that is dubbed by auto experts as what helps give the glory back to Ferrari and its universal acclaims.
According to Manzoni, the 488 Spider is a retractable hardtop convertible that has become the most "potent, innovative, and aerodynamically efficient Spider" ever crafted by Maranello, Italy-based manufacturer, which is basically the most successful in the history of Formula 1 racing.
The 488 Spider boasts of 660 horsepower and is able to go as far as 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in three seconds. It can reach speeds in excess of 200 mph (325 km/h). Aside from its already amazing speed range and design qualities, potential buyers are given the chance to customize the limited production sports car into the model that flaunts their personal specifications.
The assortment of customization items goes from leather with different grains, weights, and colors, carpeting that includes options between long or shorn lambswool, to the type of thread to be used.
Manzoni noted that Ferrari's offer to allow buyers to customize their supercars is an attempt to never shun the values of art and tradition that the old world fashion of car manufacturing has to offer, despite the fact that the car is one of this century's most moder and high-technological models.
When asked why a client should choose a Ferrari over other competitors' models that sport similar qualities, Manzoni replied matter-of-factly, "Because it is a Ferrari."
