4th Gen 'Apple TV ' soon to be in homes
Apple's media event scheduled on Wednesday, September 9, in San Francisco will showcase a glittering array of new products – from the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus with Force Touch and probably newer versions of its Magic Mouse and Wireless Keyboard. What is exciting users though is the fact that Apple's most anticipated next-generation Apple TV will also be unveiled in this event.
Apple iPhones and iPads have always held center stage for many years now. This might change with the introduction of the new Apple TV. In fact, in 2010, Apple CEO Tim Cook candidly admitted that the company's interests were more on mobile communication devices and that iPhones were its major revenue stream. Apple TV was "just a hobby", he had said back then.
Apple had primed up the new Apple TV hardware and software upgrades to debut in the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held in June but then decided to delay the introduction until September. This led to speculations that there might be some iOS9 engineering issues. However, it seems Apple has been addressing these concerns along with polishing the new features for seamless content delivery.
One of the new features users can expect Apple's 4th Gen Apple TV to have is a touch-pad remote. A recent US patent filing also indicates that the TV may offer SIRI voice control which a person can use to browse through television programs and movies. The new Apple TV may also have extra built-in storage. Your Apple TV may also be able to address users by their names with its new biometric identification software. This software also allows the TV to suggest different types of media for you to watch, listen to and enjoy based on your previous watching history.
For developers, Apple is also expected to reveal a software development kit (SDK) for the new Apple TV. This will allow people to create more apps for this device and may lead to a significant increase in third-party programs.
The Apple TV set-top box first launched as a media player in 2007. Its remote control allowed you to navigate through digital iTunes, Netflix, Now TV, YouTube, Hulu Plus and Vevo content and navigation could also be done via people's iOS devices. Apple is also believed to be working towards a live streaming service to go along with the new Apple TV.
