50 Youths Have Mall Brawl Amongst Post Holiday Shopping Crowd (VIDEO)
A moving brawl involving many young shoppers at the Mall of America took security officers and police more than an hour to contain amidst the day-after-Christmas shopping crowd, according to Bloomington, Minn., officials.
On Monday afternoon, nearly 50 young people were involved in a fight at the north food court, according to Mall spokeswoman Bridget Jewell, AOL reported.
Dozens of kids flooded Mall of America, the nation’s largest mall, as onlookers ran into stores to escape chairs and punches being thrown over shoppers’ heads.
Commander Mark Stehlik of the Bloomington Police told KARE 11 News that Monday’s violent display in the Minnesota mall was not common.
“Certainly when you have a large group of people together, that sort of thing can happen. This is highly unusual. There’s never been any kind of an incident like this at the mall before,” Stehlik said.
Mall officials said they did not lock down the mall, but some stores did shut their doors until the chaos had ended. Officials also said no weapons were involved in the brawl.
No significant injuries were reported but nine people were arrested after the mall fight.
