9/11 Flight School Owner Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges
The 9/11 flight school owner whose school trained the eventual hijackers has been arrested on unrelated charges, according to reports this week.
The owner, Rudi Dekkers, has been arrested on suspicion of trafficking cocaine and heroine, according to The Daily Mail.
The 56 year old is known for being the owner of the flight school that trained a number of the hijackers in the 9/11 attacks how to fly planes. However, now on completely separate charges the man has been arrested and taken into custody by Homeland Security.
It has been reported that an undercover operation by law enforcement officials caught Dekkers red-handed on Dec. 2.
According to the Mail Online report, undercover agents were made aware of Dekkers alleged involvement with the drug trafficking through his association with 36-year-old Arturo Astorquiza.
Astorquiza was under the attention of the law enforcement officials in connection with an international drug trafficking organization, the publication has reported.
Dekkers was arrested as agents found him handing over a suitcase to another man. After his arrest, officials were able to identify that the suitcase contained nearly 19 kilograms of cocaine as well as nearly a kilogram of heroin.
Dekkers no longer owns the flight school in Florida that taught Mohammed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi how to fly. Atta and Al-Shehhi would go on to be part of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, helping to hijack two planes that crashed into the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
Earlier this year America marked the 11th anniversary of the tragic attacks.
"The true legacy of 9/11 will not be one of fear or hate or division," Obama said at the Pentagon."It will be a safer world, a stronger nation, and a people more united than ever before."
Mitt Romney, on the other hand, was scheduled to attend the National Guard Association convention in Reno, Nev.
"Those who would attack us should know that we are united," Romney said in a statement. "Eleven years ago, evil descended upon our country, taking thousands of lives in an unspeakable attack against innocents. America will never forget those who perished. America will never stop caring for the loved ones they left behind. And America shall remain ever vigilant against those who would do us harm."
