'9JKL' Season 1 Episode 2 Spoilers: Will a One-Night Stand Turn Into Full-Blown Romance in New CBS Comedy Series?
Following his divorce and the cancellation of his cop television show, Josh Roberts (Mark Feuerstein) decides to move back to New York to temporarily crash at his old apartment to regroup and get his life and career back on track. But living right next to his parents and his brother is quickly turning into a nightmare of sorts on the new CBS comedy series, "9JKL."
There is no doubt that Josh has a very loving family, but there is also a point when even the most well-meaning gestures of affection become suffocating, especially when one is living in an apartment sandwiched between his parents' and his brother's places.
But although his attempts at setting ground rules have all failed, things seem to have a way of unexpectedly working out for the better in the end. Josh may have lost his chance at a romantic night with his old acquaintance and crush, Christina Jones (Sally Pressman), but his dad, Harry Roberts (Elliott Gould), did manage to help him land a bit part in a Paul Feig movie.
However, the next episode titled "Relationship Guy" teases that Josh is about to experience yet another downside about living right next to his parents. But will it really be a downside or another unexpected blessing in disguise?
According to the teaser summary for the said episode, Josh will be taking a date home with him for his first successful post-divorce one-night stand. But things get complicated when his date ends up bonding with his parents the following morning.
The series reportedly gained modest ratings on its premiere considering a general decline in CBS' comedy block. It has also set the lowest-rating of any comedy series that premiered right behind the sitcom juggernaut, "Big Bang."
Can the new multi-camera comedy hold on to its decent ratings, or will it see some potential improvements in the coming days?
The series is said to be loosely based on the life of Feuerstein and his wife, Dana Klein, who created and executive produced the show. The title is a reference to the three adjacent apartment units, 9J, 9K, and 9L where the parents, Josh, and his brother Andrew Roberts' (David Walton) family live respectively.
"9JKL" airs on Mondays at 8:31 p.m. EDT on CBS.
