'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' Season 2 Air Date, Cast News: Neil Patrick Harris Reveals New Characters

Neil Patrick Harris dons more disguises as Count Olaf in the second season of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" (ASOUE) on Netflix. The actor reveals his new characters in a recent interview.

Harris can't help but share his excitement over ASOUE season 2 while speaking with Elite Daily. He reveals his character will be "very schizophrenic" this season because Count Olaf will pump up his deception against the Baudelaire orphans.

"I'm playing redonkulous characters with crazy voices," Harris said.

The Tony-winning actor enumerated these characters as Coach Genghis, the gym teacher who wears a turban; Gunther, the fashionista, and auctioneer from Eastern Europe; Zach Dupoux, the detective with the gold tooth; one motivational speaker and one murderous surgeon.

Harris also revealed that while "A Series of Unfortunate Events" season 2 still closely follows the book series that author and executive producer Daniel Handler wrote, there will be some new additions to the show.

"We have some supporting characters that aren't really in the books that we've elaborated upon," he said. "Those that are diehard fans [of the books] still have another level to observe."

Harris mentioned the waiter/clown and the secretary from season 1, Larry (Patrick Breen) and Jacquelyn (Sara Canning), will have more participation in the second season. The actor said expanding the original material will make the show more emotionally satisfying for viewers.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" follows three orphaned children Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes) and Sunny (Presley Smith) as they evade Count Olaf. He's been trying to kill them so he can get his hands on their fortune.

The Baudelaire children move from place to place yet somehow Count Olaf finds them. He keeps his real identity a secret from the people watching over the kids through disguises.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" season 2 will adapt books five to eight out of the 13 that Handler published. Netflix announced it will be back in 2018, but a specific air date has not yet been confirmed. The show has also been renewed for season 3.
