Aaliyah Fans React to Keshia Chante Possibly Portraying Late Singer

Keshia Chante, the Canadian singer turned host of BET's 106th & Park, is hinting that she has auditioned for the role of late singer Aaliyah Haughton in an upcoming biopic and fans are speaking up.

Keshia,25, took to her Instagram account to post an image in which she bared a striking resemblance to the late singer and titled it, "the audition." A number of fans seemed supportive of Keshia possibly playing Aaliyah in a rumored biopic.

"I pray you get this role," one person commented on the Instagram photograph.

Another individual wrote, "She will she was born to play the role!!"

However, others were not as thrilled at the possibilities.

"PLEASE don't do it Keshia! Check with Aaliyah's MOTHER before doing this," the person wrote. "NOT with anyone else!"

Keshia previously revealed that she had been approached to portray the late singer in film, but she wanted Aaliyah's family to be supportive of it.

"…I did meet a few people production company wise that are developing the Aaliyah movie and they spoke to me about playing her in the biopic of her life. And from my understanding, there are people trying to create a movie and Aaliyah's family are still mourning her loss and aren't ready to share her story and create a film," Keshia previously said, according to blogger Necole Kane. "…unfortunately from my understanding they don't have complete control of her estate. So a movie could technically be made without them green lighting it and I kind of think that's unfortunate."

She added, "So I want her family to be on board and to be happy with it..I'm a huge fan of Aaliyah…I would want to do it justice and exceed people's expectations of it."

Aaliyah died over 12 years ago in a plane crash at the age of 22.

While XXL.com reported that her former manager and uncle, Barry Hankerson, spoke about his niece being featured in VH! bopic last year, actress Tristin Mays took to Instagram to reveal that she auditioned earlier this month.
